PART THREE:
MELODY STREET –THE BEGINNING
DO – RE – Pentatonic
In the world of make-believe, SO received a telephone call that went something like this:
SO: “Hello.”
DO: “Hello, SO?”
SO: “Yes. This is SO. Who are …Wait a minute. DO? Is that you?”
DO: “Yes! It’s me – DO. How are you?”
SO: “Great! The wife and kids are fine, too. It’s so good to hear from you. What’s going on, my friend?”
DO: “Well, the boss has given me a promotion, which means the family and I will be moving to your town, soon.”
SO: “Super! Have you looked for a place to live, yet?”
DO: “Not yet. Can you help us look for a really, nice place to live?”
SO: “You bet! In fact, MI and I live on Melody Street, and it would be the perfect place for you! When can you come here and look at our street?”
DO: “We are planning to be in your town in two weeks . . .
After their talk, plans were made. A house was built. In six months, DO was living on Melody Street.

After their talk, plans were made. A house was built. In six months, DO was living on Melody Street.
In the world of make-believe, DO was the new house. In the real world of music, DO is now the lowest pitch. DO – MI – SO – LA are four pitches that make melodies and harmony.
Music made with these four pitches is called tetratonic, because tetra- means four and -tonic means pitches. Some tetratonic songs are Apple Tree, Johnny Caught a Flea, Mister Frog, Ring Around the Rosy, and 'Round and 'Round the Garden.
Do you see new skips and leaps on Melody Street? There is only one step, but there are two skips and three leaps!
SO and MI were happy to have their old friend DO as a new neighbor.
When DO – MI – SO were together again, they wished that their old friend RE was also living on their street.
Later, MI had a telephone call from RE that was much like the one SO had from DO. Can you create a make-believe telephone call between MI and RE?
More plans were made for another house. Months later, Melody Street had five houses on it.
