Betty M Reeves is currently researching and writing On the Fringes, a biblical historical fiction series for adult readers. She is also the author of The Story of Glops, an eleven-book biblical historical fiction series for children, middle grade, teen, and young adult readers. Two of her Glops books debuted at #1 in their categories on Kindle and Amazon, and four were nominated for Christian Indie Awards and Illumination Book Awards in Christian-themed books. Betty also writes short stories, one of which placed third in the Caprock Writers & Illustrators Anthology contest.
In addition, she has written two music books: Melody Street: Story and Illustrations and Guitars & Folk Songs: An Anthology. Melody Street is listed in the internationally recognized catalog, Kodály-Related Publications. Betty is a self-published author, audiobook producer, musician, and founder of Betty’s Music & Publishing. She is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers, Christian Indie Books, Texas Authors Museum & Institute, Texas High Plains Writers Association, Caprock Writers & Illustrators Alliance, Word Weavers Critique Group, Literary Ladies Book Club, Amarillo Master Chorale, and First Baptist Church. Betty holds degrees from West Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University. She and her husband, Glenn, are native Texans with a large family and a small Yorkie. Growing up on a cotton farm about three-and-a-half miles from Amherst and fifty miles from Lubbock, Texas, Betty experienced both the blessings and challenges of rural life: wide-open spaces, star-filled nights, and the quiet of farm life, balanced against distance from schools, stores, church, and friends. Music was her lifelong companion—she began piano lessons at a young age, sang and played piano in church from childhood. Betty also loved to read. Once, she kept a record of the books she read over a summer—twenty-seven clean romantic fiction novels by Barbara Cartland, the Queen of Romance. After high school, she pursued university studies in music, pausing to raise a family. Later, she returned to complete her studies in music education. After graduation, she moved to Borger, TX, where she taught general music—including singing, choir, music history, UIL music memory, ukulele, guitar, and recorders—for twenty-three years. |

Many have asked how the idea of the glops began. When Elayne was 14, her older sister needed help with a college assignment. Elayne quickly wrote a short story about a funny, inquisitive little creature. About twenty-five years later, Betty, her mother, rediscovered the story in some old files and knew it would be a great children's book. “Go for it, Mom,” Elayne encouraged, and that spark became the inspiration for The Story of Glops series.
Elayne M Hoover-Sims enjoys storytelling, martial arts, and all kinds of creative crafts, including Hittie dolls and dollhouses. She and her husband, Don, are active in the Kingdom of Ansteorra, part of the Society for Creative Anachronism, an international community dedicated to exploring the arts, skills, and culture of the Medieval and Renaissance eras. They currently live in Austin, Texas, with their cats. Professionally, Elayne is a project manager for Catapult Systems, an IT outsourcing company. Her studies include coursework at Metropolitan State College of Denver and Angelo State University. A lifelong lover of books, she recalls sitting still for hours as a toddler listening to stories. Her third-grade teacher placed her in an advanced class due to her extensive vocabulary. At bedtime, she and her mother would read through one book series after another, beginning the next as soon as the last page was turned. |
